Every picture tells a story
Photography has always been my way of capturing the people, emotions and moments in my life. I realized the power of photography while living in Spain as a foreign exchange student and not knowing the language very well. The camera gave me a vehicle to capture the essence of the people and the culture around me and explore my new world.
Prior to opening my own photography business, I had a long and successful career as a Creative Director in Southern California directing many of my own favorite photographers. I have had the good fortune of working with some of the best studios, agencies and artists in the advertising industry.
With more than 20 years of experience directing on the set of numerous commercial and celebrity photo shoots, I developed a strong eye for composition and honed my ability to achieve it through a well-crafted understanding of camera angles, proper lens usage, and most importantly – the ability to elicit real emotions from my subjects and anticipate when to capture the moment. In addition, many hours in the traditional darkroom taught me creative skills I still incorporate into my digital processing.
After the birth of my first child in 2004, I decided to take my passion in a different direction. Like many new moms, I wanted a job that would allow me more time at home, and Schilb Photography was born.
I was shooting and freelancing in Los Angeles when Apple called to recruit me to work as a Creative Director in arguably the best in-house design and marketing department in the world. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. We moved to Northern California and I put my photography business on hold.
Years later, now with two growing girls, I was reminded why I started my photography business in the first place and I decided to re-open my business in San Jose.
